Please follow these steps to ensure the correct installation of this extension:

  • Folder Permissions
Please ensure that the ‘app’ directory at the root of your Magento installation and all the directories inside it have full write permissions (chmod 0777).

  • Disable cache and compiler
Disable the Magento cache whilst installation takes place. Visit System->Cache Management in the admin panel to do thisIf you have enabled the Magento compiler, you will need to disable it during installation. You can do this from System->Tools->Compilation.

  • Copy application files
If you have not already done so, you must backup your entire Magento system. The ZIP file you received from us contains two folders ‘step1’ and ‘step2’.

Firstly, take the contents of ‘step1’ and copy these to the root
directory of your Magento folder using an FTP client.

Then take the contents of ‘step2’ and also copy these to the root directory of your Magento folder using an FTP client. This two-step approach is designed to ensure that the extension’s installation process only begins when all the main code files from ‘step1’ have been copied into place.

  • Enable cache and compiler
If your cache and compiler were turned on previously, visit System->Cache Management and/or System->Tools->Compilation to re-enable them.

Visual Merchandiser should now be installed successfully.

Upgrading to 2.2.12

Please note: In version 2.2.5, we moved the code of Visual Merchandiser from app/code/local to app/code/community. Therefore, if you are upgrading from version 2.2.5 or before, you will need to remove the app/code/local/OnTap/Merchandiser folder entirely before copying across the new files from 2.2.9.

This page relates to version 2.2.12.

Want us to install it for you?

We offer an optional installation service where one of our engineers installs the extension on your server for you. Please contact [email protected] for details.

Software Requirements

Pre-installed version of Magento. For Community Edition, versions to inclusive. For Enterprise Edition, version to inclusive.

IMPORTANT: Visual Merchandiser requires your Magento front-end categories to have the ‘Position’ sort order available as this is how it sets the positions of the products in categories you manage.

Make a backup!

Direct installation of Magento extensions onto your production web site is not recommended or supported. We advise you to install this on a development version of your web site first to ensure correct operation with your particular Magento installation.

In addition, we advise you to make a complete backup of your Magento system (application files and database) before proceeding.
